Ancillary Data Inventory
In addition to data on root traits, we collected the ancillary data available from each data source. In FRED 1.0, these ancillary data fall under nine general categories: study location, climate, and soils, plant taxonomy, plant growth form and habit, plant growing conditions, and stand and vegetation characteristics, as well as standardized metadata on the study (e.g., data source references and Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for both data source and data set when available) and standardized metadata on the classification and sampling of roots. In total, there are 252 types of ancillary data available in FRED 1.0.
